Special Attractions Display Gardens Leaders in landscape design and construction exhibit the latest in backyard renovation trends with display gardens at the 2010 Tacoma Home & Garden Show®
Plant sale and gift card giveaway adds appeal to inspirational displays Show visitors will be inspired and ready to fulfill their garden dreams when they tour the spectacular display gardens created by SK Landscape, Olympic Landscape & Irrigation Co. and Marenakos Rock Center. These display gardens and more will be showcased at the 27th anniversary edition of the Tacoma Home & Garden Show®, January 27 - January 31 at the Tacoma Dome. Explore the “Lobby Entrance Transformation” into the perfect outdoor living environment. Created by SK Landscape of Tacoma, Wash., and sponsored by John Deere Landscaping, Mutual Materials and Windmill Gardens, this total transformation from a lobby entrance into an ideal out-of-doors haven shows how you can combine relaxation and entertaining into a complete gathering space for family and friends. Colorful flowers and plantings are used liberally and garden highlights include dramatic lighting, a deck with arbor trellising, an outdoor kitchen with dining area, water features, and pavers throughout. Designed to show how the typical backyard can be converted from a patch of grass to a romantic and serene private getaway, Olympic Landscape’s “Rustic Romance” provides inspiration for renovating the often-neglected outside spaces of the home. The Fife-based company’s design incorporates features such as a twig-laden arbor, a dining area atop a classic bluestone patio and a peaceful reflection pool. Marenakos of Issaquah, Wash., one of the oldest and largest stone suppliers in the Northwest, will create a “Stone Yard” installation highlighting stone as the backbone of a garden. Interactive demonstrations include stone carving with master stone cutter Keith Phillips and the construction of natural stone fireplaces. The trend to use natural rock in landscape design reflects homeowners’ increasing desire to bring enduring beauty to the garden.
